Root Canal

We offer Dental Care, not just dental treatments.

What is a Root Canal?

The goal of Root canal treatment is to preserve the tooth that might have the infected root canal due to bacterial infection. In this process, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed and the
inside of the tooth is judiciously cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed.

With technological advancements, root canal is becoming a routine procedure just like a filling and can be done pain-free in one or two appointment depending on tooth condition and extent of infection.

What can Root Canal Treatment do for me?

  • To save the natural tooth
  • To have Efficient chewing
  • To Enjoy normal biting force and sensation
  • Have natural appearance
  • To protect other teeth from excessive wear or strain
  • How does root canal treatment save the tooth?
  • Root canal treatment is the recommended procedure when the pulp (inside tissue of the tooth) gets inflamed as a result of trauma, repeated dental procedures, deep decay faulty crowns or a crack or chip in the tooth. If pulp inflammation is not treated, it will cause severe pain and subsequently lead to formation of dental abscess.
  • During the root canal treatment, your dentist will remove the inflamed pulp from the inside of the tooth, disinfect the canal and then fill and seal with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha. Afterwards, the tooth is restored with a crown or filling. It will help to protect the tooth structure and the tooth will be functional as any other tooth. Root canal treatment helps you to save the natural tooth and maintain your smile, as well as enjoying the foods you love.

Is Root Canal Painful?

Root canal procedure is done under local anesthetic that helps to numb the tooth, gum and the bone around the area. Local anesthetic will minimize/eliminate the pain during the procedure. Thus, root canal would be same any other dental procedure such as a filling or getting a wisdom tooth removed. However, the tooth area after root canal may be a bit sore or numb after the procedure, and can even cause mild discomfort for a few days.

Can I go to school or work after getting a Root Canal?

Although the area of the tooth after root canal will most likely be numb for 2-4 hours following the procedure, most patients are able to return to school or work directly following a root canal. Please avoid eating until the numbness (freezing) is completely gone.

What is the cost for a Root Canal Treatment?

The cost varies depending on how which tooth is involved and the complexity of the procedure. Front teeth may be simple to treat and may cost less. Due to the complexity of Molar teeth, they may be difficult to treat and take more time, the fee is usually more. Most dental insurance policies provide some coverage for endodontic treatment. We will check this with your insurance and provide you the estimate before the procedure.

Most of the time, endodontic treatment and restoration of the natural tooth cost less than the alternative of having the tooth extracted. An extracted tooth must be replaced with a bridge or an implant to rehabilitate chewing function and prevent shifting of adjacent teeth. These procedures may cost more than endodontic treatment and appropriate restoration.
